چکیده

W orld-Wide W eb (WWW) becomes extremely popular in recent y ears. However, there still exists many fundamental problems not yet solved in a satisfactory way, s u c h as the information search, distribution, caching, ltering problems, etc.. Users still often suffers from long retrieval latency, and the lack of search function which can conduct localized search or hierarchical search. In this paper, we propose a framework for solving the above m e n tioned fundamental problems by i n troducing a new model of WWW proxy servers. In our model, a p r oxy is not just an add-in to existed Web servers to pr ovide cache and security functions, but works as a middle layer between browsers and Web servers, which can be plugged i n a variety of functions for WWW applic ations, such as search engine, resource index, information lter-ing, robot, prole, intelligent agents, etc.. It's a framework for implementing hierarchical information servers and it's the right place to plug in various intelligent agents. To illustrate the usefulness of our model, we h a ve implemented two fundamental functions into this middle layer : the object lookup scheme (collaborative caching) and the searchable proxy. W e call this extensible proxy server \Virtual Proxy". Since search and retrieval is the most fundamental problems in World Wide W eb, w e will present this paper in a way to show h o w these two problems can be solved in a better way using the Virtual Proxy servers.

Behavior of WWW Proxy Servers in Low Bandwidth Conditions

Most of caching proxy servers are installed between the Internet and enterprise networks (aka the Intranet). The performance of the caching proxy server is very important for WWW service because the server handles all of the WWW transactions in the organization. In this paper, as a performance measure of the caching proxy server, we exploit the WWW object retrieval time of clients through the c...

Abnormal Web usage control by proxy strategies

The World Wide Web has become an extremely popular information service. Large HTTP packets result in network congestion. Proxy cache servers are widely deployed on the Internet to overcome this obstacle. However, the approach yields an undesirable phenomenon a small set of users misuse proxy servers to mirror the entire contents of Web sites. This behavior wastes network resources; increases WW...

Improving Performance on WWW using Intelligent Predictive Caching for Web Proxy Servers

Web proxy caching is used to improve the performance of the Web infrastructure. It aims to reduce network traffic, server load, and user perceived retrieval delays. The heart of a caching system is its page replacement policy, which needs to make good replacement decisions when its cache is full and a new document needs to be stored. The latest and most popular replacement policies like GDSF an...

Analysis of Bu er Replacement Policies for WWW

The advent of the Web service brought out the explosive growth of Internet, which necessitates a scheme to reduce the netwrok traac. Caching is a popular method in reducing such traac, and it is widely used in many Web servers, clients, and proxy servers. Since an object of Web service is accessed as a whole, the caching scheme for such object must be diierent from others that usually treat a p...

Generative Workload Models of Internet Tra cG

With the World Wide Web (WWW) traac being the fastest growing portion of load on the internet, describing and characterizing this workload is a central issue for any performance evaluation study. In this paper, we present a Probabilistic Attributed Context Free Grammar (PACFG) 1] as a model for translating from a user oriented view of the workload (namely the conversations made within WWW brows...
